When did the first Siberian Husky come to Denmark

The first Siberian Husky came to Denmark in 1968 imported by Margrethe Westring. Allerellie’s Candy came from Canada.

Candy became a Danish Champion within 2½ years.

I 1969 Candy was brought together with Baro from Norway. The were competitors i September 1968 on DKK's international dogshow on Aalborg Kvægtorv - Candy won over Baro.

In September 1970 she became mother to a litter of pure white puppies - the first in i Europe. 7 males, among those was Kien.
Kien was the first Danish breeded Siberian Husky, who became an International Champion.

Candy became mother to about 5 litters. She was the mother of 6 champions and the grandmother of 3 champions. She is ancestress to many Danish breeded huskies, and even she don't figure on the pedigree of your husky, she will often be to find if you look back in the generations .Candy died in 1978.

In 1969 Grethe imported Green-Berets Snowy Arctic from Holland (He can be seen at the picture above, and in the gallery below) He was breed by Nancy van Gelderen-Parker. Arctics parents were both active sleddogs imported from Canada. The became very important for the breeding in Europe, just like Arctic had a big influence on the breeding in Denmark. In the following years Grethe imported several excellent huskies. Some of the are shown in the gallery below.

Margrethe Westring was in 1974 one of the founders of the Danish Siberian Husky Club.

Grethe died in 1988 only 60 years old.

We are a small group of friends who is meeting every year on her birthday talking old memories.
